CIES announced three new additions to its Board of Directors:

Richard Fedigan, CEO of CIES, stated that “he was delighted to reinforce the already strong CIES board by adding key players in the retail business”
These additions come after Roland Fahlin, President, ICA Ahold AB, took over the chairmanship of the CIES Board earlier this year.
Wal*Mart is the world’s largest retailer with sales of US$165 billion last year and about 4,000 stores, including discount stores (Wal-Mart), combination discount and grocery stores (Wal-Mart Supercenters and ASDA in the UK), and membership-only warehouse stores (Sam’s Club). Wal*Mart is the leading retailer in Canada and Mexico, and also has operations in South America, Asia, and Europe.
Jusco Co., Ltd. is one of Japan’s leading General Merchandise Store (GMS) chains with more than 6,200 outlets. In fiscal year 2000, its consolidated revenues totaled US$ 22.7 billion. The company and its subsidiaries operate superstores, supermarkets, discount stores, specialty and convenience stores and restaurants in Japan and seven other countries.
The Daiei, Inc., one of Japan’s largest retailers, operates general merchandise stores, supermarkets, discount stores, convenience stores, department stores and specialty shops. The group has a majority stake in more than 7,200 Lawson convenience stores (number 2 in Japan, after 7-Eleven). The Daiei’s annual sales were of US$25.900 billion last year.
