USA: Deadline for responses to FDA interim final rule on health claims extended
The deadline for the publication of the interim final rule of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has been extended to 25 July this year. The final rule, entitled “Food Labelling: Health Claims; Plant Sterol/Stanol Esters and Coronary Heart Disease,” was made on 8 September 2000. Responses were gathered within a 270-day period, however the FDA revealed that due to the complexity of the issues raised by the rule and its own lack of resources, the deadline has been extended until its publication.
