Dean Foods Company (NYSE: DF) today announced that effective August 1, 2001, Dr. Tom Gruetzmacher has been appointed Director, Research and Development and Quality Assurance, replacing Dr. George Muck, who is retiring. Dr. Gruetzmacher will be responsible for Dean Foods Research and Development and the Quality Assurance areas, and will also represent the Company in dealings with federal and state regulators.

Dr. Gruetzmacher has been with the Company for 24 years, most recently as Associate Director of Research at the Rockford Technical Center. He started his career at Dean Foods as a Quality Control Supervisor at our Pecatonica manufacturing plant, before becoming Quality Control Manager at the Janesville, Wisconsin cottage cheese facility. He also had the role of Research Section Leader for manufactured products.

Dr. Gruetzmacher graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, gaining a Bachelor’s, Master’s and Ph.D. in Food Science.
