The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said the recalled products are 19-oz cans of ready to serve soup, labelled as “chunky grilled sirloin steak with vegetables”, under the Food Lion brand.

The top of each recalled can is stamped with a use by code: “JUL2005,” a lot code: “PF3G24,” a variety symbol: “PK” and an establishment number: “P-51”, according to the FSIS.

Although labelled as containing the steak and vegetable variety, the recalled cans actually contain a different variety, “chunky grilled chicken with vegetables and pasta”. The pasta contains egg whites, which some people are allergic to.

The soup was produced on 24 July 2003 and distributed to retail stores in Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.
