Grapefruit received most of the damage when the storm hit the region, which grows a majority of US fresh grapefruit. Large quantities of fruit fell to the ground, and weakened stems have lost the ability to send water to the fruit, which may mean more losses.

Early estimates peg the damage to the citrus crop at US$180m, with nearly half of the state’s grapefruit and 13% of the state’s orange crop destroyed.
