The FTC sent a civil subpoena requesting an explanation from KFC, which is owned by Yum! Brands, and justification of the health claims in the adverts, reported the Wall Street Journal.

A KFC spokeswoman said the company is “concluding this promotional period on Friday and getting ready for the next promotional period,” which would have new adverts, the paper reported.

The spokeswoman would not elaborate on why KFC was changing adverts, or how long the move had been planned for.

The health-claim adverts “simply set the record straight by providing consumers the facts about KFC’s Original Recipe fried chicken and how it can be part of a balanced diet,” she was quoted by the Wall Street Journal as saying.
