US bakery foods producer Interstate Bakeries (IBC) has announced plans to close its bakery in Florence, South Carolina.
The facility makes bread and rolls, sold under several IBC brand names, including Wonder and Merita. Production capacity at the Florence bakery will be transferred to IBC bakeries in Charlotte and Rocky Mount, North Carolina. The closure, scheduled for 6 February 2005, will affect approximately 200 employees.
IBC, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on 22 September 2004, said the move was part of the company’s efforts to seek production efficiencies on a national scale.
