US pork producer Smithfield Foods had sued the state of Iowa last year, claiming the state’s ban on meat processors owning livestock operations was discriminating against interstate commerce.
The district court found in Smithfield’s favour, but this ruling has now been set aside by the appeals court and sent back to the district court. The appeals court ruled that there had not been enough information to determine if the law was unconstitutional, reported Reuters.
