US nut producer John B Sanfilippo & Son has reported higher quarterly income, helped by substantial sales growth.
The company posted net income of US$10.4m, or $1.12 per share, for the second quarter to 25 December 2003, compared to $8.2m, or 90 cents per share, in the year-ago period.
Second-quarter net sales grew significantly to $171.4m from $138.1m a year earlier. The company said the 24.1% sales increase was attributable to sizeable gains in the consumer, industrial, foodservice and export distribution channels during the second quarter.
John B Sanfilippo & Son is a processor, packager, marketer and distributor of shelled and in-shell nuts, sesame sticks and other snacks that are sold under private labels and under the company’s own brands, such as Fisher, Chef’s Natural and Texas Pride.
