Kellogg company executive Dr. Michael McBurney has been named the head of the new department of nutrition and food science at Texas A&M University.

He assumed his new duties on Monday.

McBurney was senior nutrition business partner at the Kellogg company in Battle Creek, Michigan and adjunct professor at the University of Alberta and Michigan State University. At Kellogg, McBurney was responsible for the nutrition labelling of US products and nutrition research.

He also taught nutrition in the department of agricultural, food and nutritional science at the University of Alberta at Edmonton from 1988 until 1997.

“Dr. McBurney has extensive experience, both as a professor and as an industry professional,” said Dr. Elsa Murano, vice chancellor and dean of agriculture and life sciences. “He has appreciation for nutrition and food science, and how these fields intersect, which will be invaluable in helping our new department start on a firm path toward excellence in teaching, research, and extension.”
