Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. rode into town today on the Pony Express celebrating the start of construction for the first Krispy Kreme Doughnuts store in Sacramento on Arden Way near the corner of Watt Avenue.
Krispy Kreme plans to open in Sacramento in October, bringing residents of the capital region a chance to enjoy the legendary treats that are hot, fresh and delicious Krispy Kreme doughnuts. National Pony Express Association member Jim Eiland, 61, of Rio Linda delivered the first official Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, hoisting a box of Original Glazed to inaugurate Krispy Kreme’s arrival to the capital city.
In the Bay Area, the doughnuts became a sensation after the opening of Krispy Kreme’s first store in Union City last March. A second Krispy Kreme store is under construction in Mountain View, also in the Bay Area.
“This is our hometown, so we’re really excited about arriving in Sacramento, getting involved in the community and giving residents throughout the region a chance to find out for themselves what a Krispy Kreme tastes like and to have the Krispy Kreme experience,” said Brad Bruckman, the area developer for Krispy Kreme in Northern California.
In California’s capital, Krispy Kreme doughnut devotees such as Jerry Stoehr can’t wait, not only for their own store, but also for a chance for their friends to find out what all the fuss is about.
“I’ve told so many about how great they are, now I want to show them I’m not just a nutcase. I really love these doughnuts and here’s why,” Stoehr said.

Once open, the Sacramento store will employ up to 150 people and offer fast, friendly counter service seven days a week.
Krispy Kreme offers 15 varieties of doughnuts, including the best-selling Original Glazed. To assure quality and consistency, Krispy Kreme produces its own doughnut mix and its own equipment. Krispy Kreme has its own specialty blend of coffee made from a selection of 100 percent Arabica beans.
