US doughnut maker and retailer Krispy Kreme paid US$16.8m for the remaining 33% interest its in Northern California franchise, according to a filing the company made to the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Krispy Kreme said in February it had bought the remaining interest in Golden Gate Doughnuts, but had not previously disclosed the price of the transaction, reported Dow Jones News.


The franchise was one of Krispy Kreme’s largest, with 16 stores and the rights for a total of 25 stores, and generated revenue of $36.2m during the year to 2 February 2003.


The recent filing also revealed that Krispy Kreme had paid $32.1m in October for the rights to certain franchise markets in Michigan and related assets, including five stores.
