The first, conducted at Duke University followed 120 moderately obese people over six-months. During that time, 12 kilograms were shed in the low-carb group, compared to 6.5 kilograms in the low-fat group.


The second study, conducted at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Philadelphia, followed 132 severely obese adults for one year.


At six-months, the low-carbers lost more weight than the low-fat group.
After six months however, weight stabilised for the low-carb group, while it continued to drop for the low-fat group.
