US fastfood giant McDonald’s has said that its August systemwide sales rose 10% to US$4.2bn.
In constant currencies the increase was 7%. Comparable sales for the company’s McDonald’s chain rose 3.8% in constant currencies, compared with a year-earlier decline of 2.0%.
The company said its comparable sales in the US were up 8.8% in August, while in Europe comparable sales rose 1.0%, helped by new menu initiatives.
Meanwhile McDonald’s Japan, which is 50.1% owned by the US fastfood giant, said sales at stores open more than a year fell 8.8% in August compared to a year earlier.
Last month McDonald’s Japan cut its net profit estimate for the calendar year, as new products and price increases failed to offset declining revenues, reported Reuters.
