Burger behemoth McDonald’s has announced the promotion of Bill Lamar to senior VP in charge of the US Marketing, a role in which he will oversee all aspects of national marketing for the chain’s 13,000 US restaurants.

Mike Roberts, president of McDonald’s USA, commented: “Lamar has proven marketing, business and field expertise. He has demonstrated the type of leadership skills that are necessary to create new and exciting ways to engage and please our customers.”


Lamar began his McDonald’s career in 1984 as a staff director in McDonald’s National Marketing Department. Most recently, he served as VP and general manager of McDonald’s Atlanta Region, where he was responsible for nearly 700 McDonald’s restaurants with more than US$1bn in annual sales. Before joining McDonald’s, Lamar worked in marketing for Quaker Oats, Burrell Advertising and United Airlines.


Lamar earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois in 1973, and a master’s degree from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management in 1976.


Lamar said: “My marketing and operations management experience with McDonald’s during the past 18 years has prepared me for this wonderful and challenging opportunity.”
