US fastfood giant McDonald’s has reported a 16.6% increase in April systemwide sales compared to April of last year.
Systemwide sales rose 11.3% in constant currencies, while comparable sales for McDonald’s restaurants worldwide increased 10.5% for the month.
Comparable store sales in the US rose 13.5%, while those in Europe rose 5.0%, boosted by the introduction of the Salads Plus menu in Germany and the UK. By the end of May, the Salads Plus menu will be available in a total of fourteen European countries, including the company’s three largest markets, McDonald’s said.
McDonald’s president and chief executive officer, Charlie Bell, said he is “recovering nicely” from the cancer surgery he had last week.
“I feel good and I look forward to a complete recovery,” he added.
