US fastfood giant McDonald’s has postponed plans to switch to a healthier type of cooking oil for its fried food and did not reveal when it would resume the plans to complete the changeover.

In September the burger restaurant chain announced that it planned to change over to using a new type of cooking oil that reduces trans fatty acids by 48% and saturated fat by 16%. The company planned to have the switch completed by the end of February.


McDonald’s said in a brief statement that while changing to the new oil quickly was an “admirable goal,” the company was most focused on customer satisfaction and the quality of its products.


A company spokesman could not be reached for comment, and the company’s statement provided no more detail, reported Reuters.
