Nash Finch, a US food retailer and distributor based in Minnesota, has announced the grand opening of specialised food stores designed to serve the growing Hispanic marketplace.

The first store in Denver, Colorado carries an array of products and services long sought by the Hispanic shopper and never before offered on this scale by a national chain, said the company. Denver was selected because of its large concentration of Hispanic area residents.

“We are delighted to officially open the first AVANZA store,” president and CEO Ron Marshall stated: “We believe our approach – developed and tested, by and for Hispanic people – fills a real need for this expanding national market.

“AVANZA food stores efficiently provide the products, as well as a comfortable and familiar environment, befitting this important community.”

“Our opening reflects the growing impact of this culture, now exceeding 35 million citizens and representing approximately 12.5% of the total US population,” Marshall added. “The Hispanic population grew at a rate of nearly 58% in the last decade.”
