Minnesota-based Supervalu and Nash Finch are both looking to pick up customers that had been served by Fleming, reported the Associated Press.

Jeff Noddle, chairman and CEO of Supervalu, has said that his company has picked up around US$380m in sales to former Fleming customers in the past year and was continuing to seek out new customers.

Nash Finch has been telling independent grocers that it can service their food distribution needs.

“If you are looking to grow your retail business, or may be considering a change in your current retail operation, Nash Finch Co. has proven services and programs necessary to help independent retailers be successful in today’s competitive markets,” said a letter to Fleming customers from Clint Covey, division manager for Nash Finch at its St. Cloud distribution centre.
