Safe Foods Corporation of N. Little Rock, AR, announced today the appointment of Dr. James L. Marsden, Regents Distinguished Professor of Meat Science at Kansas State University, to a three-year term on its corporate Scientific Advisory Board. Marsden will advise the food safety company’s Board of Directors and management on technical food safety issues and will serve as the company’s Corporate Food Safety Consultant.

Safe Foods Corporation is commercializing a new food safety product discovered by researchers at the University of Arkansas. The discovery, now known as Cecure(tm), has attracted the interest of food producers and processors around the world because of its effectiveness against foodborne pathogens such as E. Coli, Salmonella, and Listeria.

In the announcement, Curtis Coleman, President and CEO of Safe Foods Corp., said that “Dr. Marsden is widely recognized as one of the nation’s most outstanding and credible food safety scientists. He is eminently qualified to advise Safe Foods Corporation on the development of its food safety products and services.” In commenting on his appointment, Marsden said “The CecureTM process has been shown to be an extraordinarily effective antimicrobial treatment in a variety of food applications. I look forward to supporting the development and implementation of this important new technology.”

Marsden, a graduate of Oklahoma State University (B.S., M.S., Ph.D.), will join Dr. Amy Waldroup, Professor of Poultry Science at the University of Arkansas, Dr. Larry Milne, Dean of the College Pharmacy at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and Dr. Danny Lattin, Dean of the College of Pharmacy at South Dakota State University on the company’s advisory board.

Marsden also serves as the Senior Advisor for North American Meat Processors and is the Scientific Advisor World Food Logistics Organization. As an expert on food safety issues, Marsden has been interviewed by CBS Evening News, CBS 48 Hours, CBS This Morning, CBS Radio, NBC Dateline, ABC Good Morning America, CNN Headline News, CNBC, C-Span, and the Phil Donahue Show.

The past President of the American Meat Institute Foundation and Vice President Scientific and Technical Affairs for the American Meat Institute, Marsden has served as Corporate Director for Quality, Technical Services, and Research & Development for food companies including New Zealand Milk Products, Wilson Foods, and Armour Food Company. His honors include his selection as Citizen Ambassador Delegate to the Peoples Republic of China – Citizen Ambassador Program of People to People International/China Association for Science and Technology.
