When recently polled, officials at rescue missions across the country said they typically receive corporate food donations during Thanksgiving or Christmas. Most respondents provide meals three times a day, seven days a week. As important as their goal may be, rescue mission executives universally say it is a year-round challenge to “keep food on the table,” especially meat products.

In an effort to address this issue, Omaha Steaks, the nation’s largest direct response marketer of steaks and other frozen gourmet foods, recently announced a new sponsorship called, “Feeding Families on Father’s Day.” Under the sponsorship, Omaha Steaks will partner with six rescue missions to organize sit-down meals for approximately 3,650 people at 10 locations during Father’s Day weekend. Participating missions will serve patrons lunch or dinner on Saturday, June 17 or Sunday, June 18. Omaha Steaks is providing the main entree while each mission partner will provide side dishes to complete their meal.

In addition to the food sponsorship, Omaha Steaks officials have developed another component to the “Feeding Families on Father’s Day” program. For every Father’s Day T-Bone Package sold in its 55 retail stores leading up to the “Feeding Families on Father’s Day” event, Omaha Steaks will donate 10 percent of profits to the rescue missions.

Is this a random act of kindness on the part of Omaha Steaks? Todd Simon, 5th generation owner of Omaha Steaks, says sponsorship falls within the company’s business philosophy. “For years, Omaha Steaks has supported local and national community causes, but we wanted to take our efforts a step further. Research indicates that more than 30 million Americans are affected by hunger. This sponsorship will enable Omaha Steaks to help feed mass populations,” said Simon.

Based on the overall results of this test program, Omaha Steaks officials may expand “Feeding Families on Father’s Day” in other markets next year.
