Cincinnati-based consumer goods giant Procter & Gamble (P&G) today [Wednesday] announced that Sharon E. Abrams has been elected secretary and associate general counsel.

Abrams, who is currently associate general counsel – US legal, succeeds Terry L. Overbey, who has been named VP and associate general counsel – US legal, effective 8 October 2002.
In a separate action, the board of directors declared an increase in the annual rate of its common stock and Series A ESOP Convertible Preferred Stock dividend from US$1.52 to US$1.64 per share.
In line with this action, P&G directors declared an increase in the quarterly dividend on both its common stock and Series A ESOP Convertible Preferred Stock from US$0.38 per share to US$0.41 per share, payable on or after 15 August 2002 to shareholders of record at the close of business on 19 July 2002.
This marks the 47th consecutive fiscal year in which per share dividends paid by P&G on its common stock will have increased. The company has been paying dividends without interruption since incorporation in 1890.
