US food maker Ralcorp Holdings has said it is to close its Carriage House plant in Kansas City, leading to the loss of 45 jobs.

The facility, which produces salad dressing and mayonnaise, is expected to be closed by the end of July 2004.


“Today’s announcement exemplifies the ongoing effort to rationalise the production capacity and improve operating efficiencies at the company’s Carriage House facilities,” said David Skarie, co-chief executive and president of Ralcorp and president of Carriage House.


“Our resulting plant structure will allow us to continue to provide quality products and service to our customers in the future,” he added.


In addition to Kansas City, Ralcorp operates five other manufacturing facilities in its Carriage House division. Production of the products presently manufactured in Kansas City will be relocated to other Carriage House facilities.
