Casual dining chain Red Robin Gourmet Burgers is to expand its franchisee base with the addition of two new franchise partners and an expanded agreement with a third franchise partner to add up to 17 new locations over the next seven years.

Each of the franchisees will pay the Greenwood Village, Colo.-based firm royalty fees and advertising contributions.


Manchester, Connecticut-based Round Robin will develop seven Red Robin locations in Connecticut and Western Massachusetts over the next seven years. This group currently operates five Roy Rogers locations and one Sbarro unit through its parent company, US Foods, and plans to open its first Red Robin Connecticut location in mid-2003.


Under the terms of its new franchise agreement, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based Unbridled Hospitality will open five new Red Robins in Western Pennsylvania over the next five years. Unbridled Hospitality is affiliated with Kings Family Restaurants, a 35 year-old company operating family restaurants in a 14-county area in Western Pennsylvania; it also plans to open its first Red Robin in mid-2003.


Red Robin of Michigan, an existing franchisee, will add five new restaurants in five years in Western Michigan. Red Robin of Michigan already operates eight Red Robin restaurants in Michigan and one in Toledo, Ohio, and expects to open its first location stemming from this agreement in late 2003. In addition to its experience with Red Robin restaurants, Red Robin of Michigan operates six Big Boy locations through Ansara Big Boy Restaurants.
