US regional supermarket operator Roundy’s is to purchase seven former Kohl’s supermarkets in the Milwaukee area from Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co.

The purchase price was not disclosed, although Roundy’s said it was below US$50m, the threshold above which an automatic federal review is carried out, reported the Associated Press.

The stores are to be remodelled and will reopen during the first three months of 2004 as Pick ‘n Save supermarkets.

The seven stores are among 23 Kohl’s supermarkets that closed in August.
