US food and consumer goods giant Sara Lee has announced that its bakery group has expanded its bagel line to meet growing demand for products containing more fibre and whole grains.
Sara Lee Bakery Group, which is the country’s second-largest fresh packaged bagel producer, said the new bagels would target consumers seeking to increase their intake of fibre and whole grains as well as those seeking to reduce calorie consumption.
The company has introduced two varieties of Sara Lee Delightful toaster-size bagels – Plain and 100% Whole Wheat – which contain 120 calories and 7 grams of fibre each.
Sara Lee Bakery Group has also introduced Sara Lee Heart Healthy 100% Whole Wheat regular-size bagels, which are made with whole grains and contain 6 grams of fibre.
“Sales of whole-grain products are the fastest growing in the bread aisle, which shows that consumers continue to be interested in great-tasting grain products that help them achieve their nutritional goals,” said Frances Coletta, director of product nutrition at Sara Lee Bakery Group.
