The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has asked the bankruptcy courts for three more months to file a claim against US discount retailer Kmart.

Kamrt, which filed for bankruptcy on 22 January, is being investigated by the SEC for any potential claims for alleged accounting irregularities, and the SEC explained that the extension will enable it to determine how large a claim it may file, if any at all.
The SEC is currently due to present any claims by 31 July however it wants the deadline extended to 29 October.
