US supermarket chain Shaw’s Supermarkets, a wholly owned subsidiary of UK supermarket retailer J Sainsbury, has announced the appointment of Paul T. Gannon to the position of president and chief executive officer.

Gannon assumed responsibilities from Shaw’s former CEO, Ross McLaren.  As previously planned and announced by the company, McLaren has officially retired from Shaw’s Supermarkets.

Gannon started his career in 1990 as the vice president of information technology services and most recently held the position of president and chief operating officer.  As part of his new appointment as president and CEO, Gannon will represent Shaw’s on J Sainsbury’s executive committee.

Gannon started his career at Anderson Consulting, becoming a certified public accountant in the process.  Before joining Shaw’s, he was employed by Hills Department Stores.
