US coffee retailer and coffee shop operator Starbucks yesterday [Monday] announced the appointment of David A. Pace as executive vice-president, Partner Resources.

In this position, which has already taken effect, Pace leads the 270-person Partner Resources Department and is responsible for all partner (employee) recruitment, retention, and benefits programmes, as well as related organisational strategies. He reports directly to Starbucks president and chief executive officer Orin Smith.

Pace, 43, joins Starbucks from i2 Technologies, a Dallas-based software company, where he had served as executive vice president and chief people officer since November 2000.

“Dave brings a strong combination of human resources skills and experience in the leadership of multi-unit retail and consumer products companies,” said Smith. “We are confident that he will provide business leadership and direction to help meet our operating and strategic goals. We are delighted to have someone of his professional calibre join our organisation.”
