Starbucks Coffee Company (Nasdaq:SBUX) announced yesterday the appointment of David N. Chichester as senior vice president, Finance. In this newly created position, Chichester is responsible for Starbucks Accounting, Treasury, Risk Management, Corporate Development, Business Planning, Profit Improvement and Tax functions. He will focus on providing strategic and operational direction to enhance the overall effectiveness of the financial functions and to continue to build shareholder value.

“David brings strong leadership skills and exceptional experience in corporate financial management to Starbucks,” said Michael Casey, executive vice president, chief financial and chief administrative officer. “He has worked in both large public and smaller entrepreneurial organizations, where he has successfully established treasury, budgeting and internal audit departments and managed all financial functions. His background also includes investment and commercial banking and real estate financing.”

Before joining Starbucks, Chichester served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Red Roof Inns, Inc. and Hecklers Online, Inc. Prior to these positions, he held senior management positions in finance at Marriott Corporation, Integrated Health Services and G. E. Credit Corporation, and served as a Vice President of Warburg Paribas Becker and the First National Bank of Chicago. Chichester also served as a Lieutenant in the U. S. Navy. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Brown University and a master’s degree in business administration from Harvard University. He serves on the Boards of Living Strategies, Inc. and the Brown University Sports Foundation.
