Minneapolis-based supermakret retailer and food distributer SUPERVALU INC. has announced the appointment of Yolanda Scharton to corporate VP of communications and investor relations.

In this new role, Scharton will oversee the SUPERVALU corporate communications function with key constituencies including media, employees and the investor community.
“Scharton’s skill-set, blending strong food industry knowledge with financial and media savvy, uniquely qualifies her to successfully lead SUPERVALU’s corporate communications effort,” said Pam Knous, executive VP and CFO.
Scharton joined SUPERVALU in March of 2000 as VP investor relations. An experienced investor relations and corporate communications professional, Scharton has a diverse background including corporate positions within both the food and technology industries.
Prior to joining SUPERVALU, Scharton most recently served as director, investor relations with NCS Corporation, a Minnesota-based technology company. Prior to that, Scharton served as the director, investor relations at both Multifoods and The Pillsbury Company.
