USA: US accepts defeat at WTO over Australasian lamb duties

The United States has accepted its loss of an appeal at the World Trade Organisation against a decision by its disputes settlement body, (DSB), that Washington had broken WTO rules when erecting safeguard duties against lamb imports from New Zealand and Australia. American diplomats told the body: "It is the intention of the United States to implement the recommendations and rulings of the DSB in this dispute in a manner that respects US WTO obligations, and we have begun to evaluate options for doing so." The US said it needed "a reasonable period of time" to do so, and that talks would be held with New Zealand and Australia on this point.
