US Senate and House negotiators agreed two provisions in the spending budget for 2006 for the US Department of Agriculture that would override a federal court ruling banning products not containing 100% organic ingredients from using the organic label, reported Reuters.


“Without those two key provisions, the face of the organic industry and the marketplace for organic products would have changed dramatically,” the OTA’s executive director, Katherine DiMatteo, was quoted by Reuters as saying.


The move was opposed by the Organic Consumers Association, which said it would weaken organic standards.
