The investigation relates to Tyson’s planned restructuring of its swine business.

Tyson plans to sever ties with 132 hog producers, as well as closing company-owned and leased farms. Some 200 jobs will be lost. The company says the move is necessary to protect the long-term health of the rest of the business, and that the division is running at an operating loss.

The USDA will be inspecting the contracts between the company and the hog producers affected, to make sure all is in line with the Packers and Stockyards Act of 1921, reports Dow Jones Newswire.
