US retail giant Wal-Mart has reported a 9.3% rise in net sales for June compared to the same period of last year.

The company posted net sales of US$26.97bn for the five weeks to 2 July, compared to $24.67bn in the year-ago period. The Wal-Mart division’s sales for the five-week period were $18.11bn, up 8.3% over sales of $16.73bn a year earlier. Sam’s Club sales rose 7.8% to $3.65bn. The company’s international division posted sales of $5.22bn, up 14.4% over sales of $4.56bn in the year-ago period.


Total US comparable sales rose 2.2% for the June period, while Wal-Mart comparable sales rose 1.3% and Sam’s Club comparable sales rose 6.4%.


For the July four-week period, the company has forecast comparative sales for the US to be in the 2-4% range.
