US retail giant Wal-Mart has reported net sales for the four-week period ending 28 May 2004, of US$21.43bn, an increase of 12.8% over the $18.99bn in the same four-week period in the prior year.

The Wal-Mart division’s sales for the four-week period rose 11.7% to $14.39bn. Sam’s Club sales for the period were $2.94bn, up 12.9% over the prior year period. The international division’s sales for the month rose 17.1% to $4.10bn.


Total US comparable sales rose 5.9%, with those at Wal-Mart increasing 4.7%, while those at Sam’s Club rose 11.8%.


For the June five-week period, Wal-Mart said it continues to forecast comparative sales for the US to be up in the 4 to 6% range.
