US retail giant Wal-Mart has said it expects its March US same-store sales to be at the high end of its forecast of a 4-6% increase.
Wal-Mart said sales in March had been helped by strong sales of food and Easter goods. Sales of Easter clothing and decorations were ahead of expectations, but confectionery sales were slightly down on last year’s level, reported Reuters.
Last year, March sales suffered from the late date of Easter, which fell in the April sales period. This year Easter falls on 11 April, which is in the April sales period again, but is 11 days earlier than last year.
