US retail titan Wal-Mart has reported an 11.7% increase in April net sales, while comparable sales in the US rose 4.4%.


Wal-Mart said net sales for the four-week period to 30 April were US$20.77bn, compared to $18.59bn in the same four-week period in the prior year.


Sales at the company’s Wal-Mart division rose 10.5% to $13.98bn for the four-week period, while sales at Sam’s Clubs rose 9.7% to $2.74bn. The company’s international division posted sales of $4.05bn for April, up 17.4% compared to the year-ago period.


US comparable sales rose 4.4%, with comparable sales at Sam’s Clubs rising 8.3% and those at Wal-Mart outlets rising 3.6%.
