Wendy’s will now offer customers the option of substituting milk and a fruit cup for soft drinks and French fries in their Kids’ Meals. The national rollout this week follows a successful nine-month test at 420 Wendy’s restaurants in Columbus, Ohio; Miami; Philadelphia; and Raleigh, N.C. The reduced fat (2%) white or low fat (1%) chocolate milk and the mandarin orange fruit cup can also be ordered a la carte.

Starting next month, Wendy’s will also add Baton Rouge as another test market for its combo meal programme, where customers can substitute chilli, a baked potato or side salad in place of French fries. Wendy’s is already testing the concept in New Orleans, Portland, Oregon, and Charleston, West Virginia. In August, the company will carry out local television and radio advertising to support the test.
