The Boulder, Colorado-based company said it was recalling 360 packages of the Vanilla Silk branded milk, which was sold in Sam’s Clubs stores in Alabama, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Ohio and Texas. The company had already voluntarily recalled 25,000 cases of half-gallon Vanilla Silk soymilk sold throughout the US.

The company, a subsidiary of US food company Dean Foods, said the chemical affects the taste and smell of the milk and customers are therefore unlikely to drink it. Anyone who does drink the contaminated product may experience a burning sensation or nausea.

“We have isolated the manufacturing equipment malfunction that led to the problem and have put additional safeguards in place to prevent this chain of events from impacting our product in the future,” White Wave president Steve Demos was quoted by the Associated Press as saying.

The codes “Jun 27 03” and “H CD-70” or “J CD-70” are stamped at the top of each container affected by the latest recall.
