Brazilian dairy Vigor is planning to set up a plant in the state of Rio de Janeiro as it looks to continue its expansion within the country.
Vigor said it had “executed definitive documents” with officials in Barra do Piraí “with a view to implementing a new dairy products plant” in the city. Barra do Piraí is around 120km west of the city of Rio de Janeiro.

“The agreement reinforces the company’s strategy of geographical expansion and growth in major consumption centers of Brazil, with [an] increase in its production capacity,” Victor Machado, the company’s recently-appointed CFO, said.
Vigor is one of the four largest dairy companies in Brazil. It was spun out of Brazilian meat giant JBS in 2012. JBS still holds a stake in the business.
Another shareholder in Vigor is European dairy group Arla Foods. Arla acquired a stake in Vigor in September after exchanging joint ownership of the companies’ local Dan Vigor venture for 8% of its partner.
In an interview with just-food last year, Vigor CEO Gilberto Xandó said the company was eyeing expansion in south-eastern states like Rio de Janeiro.
