Wessanen has acquired UK gluten-free bakery group Mrs Crimble’s for an undisclosed sum.
Mrs Crimble’s sales totalled GBP12.7m in 2015. Further financial details for the company’s financial performance were not disclosed.
Announcing the deal, Wessanen stressed the group’s strong presence in the UK market, which the Dutch food group said would help ramp up its international presence.
Wessanen also said the acquisition of Mrs Crimble’s fits its existing portfolio of “healthy and sustainable brands”, expanding its presence in healthy snacking. The group’s products include gluten-free cakes and biscuits, baking mixes and snacks. The Mrs Crimble’s brand is expected to benefit from the growth in popularity of gluten-free products, the company noted.
Christophe Barnouin, CEO of Wessanen, said: “The acquisition of Mrs Crimble’s is a further step in the execution of our strategy. The brand has great knowledge in gluten-free “sweet-in-between” products and a strong base in the UK. This acquisition will further strengthen our operations in the UK market and gives us an entry into a strategic growth segment.”
