The UN Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) has announced that it is to promote rabbit farming in its livestock projects worldwide, especially in developing countries.

The FAO explained: “There is…recognition that the potential of small species like rabbits, has been underestimated.”

The organisation says that rabbits are highly productive because of their short gestation and great prolificacy, with a female producing up to 80 kg of meat per year.

Rabbit meat is highly nutritious, low fat, low-cholesterol and rich in proteins, vitamins and minerals.
