ISO 22000 specifies requirements for safety management for sourcing, manufacturing, canning, boxing, bagging, bottling, delivering and selling food. Its detailed advice will apply to food manufacturers, packagers, bottlers, distributors and retailers alike.

ISO Secretary-General Alan Bryden stressed that the standard would help food companies implement Codex Alimentarius HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) systems, and that the UN body had been closely involved in developing the new guidelines.
