The Indonesian unit of Japanese probiotic drinks giant Yakult has confirmed it will expand its production facility in East Java to meet growing demand in the country.
Details of the plan were announced by Indra Tjahjono, managing director of Yakult Indonesia, who told local media the firm will upgrade its plant at the Ngoro Industrial Park.

Indra said the capacity of the factory will be raised from 1.2m bottles per day to 4m bottles a day in the next five years.
A spokesman for the company in Tokyo confirmed to just-food the development will go ahead.
“We are planning to expand facilities in the future, but [we] don’t have a confirmed, detailed plan yet,” the spokesperson said.
He was unable to provide further information about the project, although reports in Indonesia indicate that US$25m will be invested in the development and the company has set a sales target of US$123m for this year, up 18% on last year’s sales.
