Ireland-based convenience food group Greencore has acquired a factory from UK firm Tasties of Chester, the makers of the Street Eats brand, for an undisclosed sum.

The manufacturing facility at West Drayton near Heathrow, was only opened 18 months ago. It produces hot and cold food-to-go products.

The acquisition will provide Greencore with the additional manufacturing capacity it needs to meet its growth targets within the food-to-go market, the company said in a statement.

“We look forward to welcoming 96 new colleagues to our Food-to-Go division and to the Greencore Way,” said Greencore’s food to go MD Kevin Moore.

The 40,000 sq m site was bought by Street Eats and Tasties of Chester owner PK Food Concepts in February 2016 as part of a strategy to triple its capability and improve its distribution links with the south of England. At the time PK invested GBP4m in the facility to make it into a sandwich factory, after its operations in Chester neared to full capacity. At the time, PK said it planned to create around 300 jobs at the new plant.

“Given the size and scale of Greencore, it is clearly better place to make the investment needed to develop Stockley Close to its full potential,” said Tasties Of Chester’s chief executive Paul Kingsley Bates. “As such, we are delighted to have reached an agreement that recognizes the fantastic foundations that the team have put in place over the past 18 months.”

The acquisition came after the convenience food maker reported that its food to go offering had experienced strong growth in the six months to 31 March.
