Japanese giant Ajinomoto is to sell a plant in the US to local manufacturer Today’s Foods.

The ownership of the facility, located in Piedmont in Missouri, is scheduled to transfer to Today’s Foods, an affiliate of local frozen and refrigerated food manufacturer Tasty Brands, in early 2018.

The site, part of the Japanese group’s North American division Ajinomoto Windsor, “will remain open and in full operation” during the move to new owners.

“We have been very impressed by the Piedmont community and the employees at the facility,” David Horowitz, president of Today’s Food and Tasty Brands, said.

Alongside the news of the deal, Ajinomoto announced plans to build a new appetiser production facility in Joplin, Missouri.

Ajinomoto acquired US ethnic food maker Windsor Quality Holdings in 2014 for around US$800m.
