The size is too big for commercial purposes so they will be harvesting them young, reducing the time needed to rear a saleable product.


The project’s principal scientist Dr Nigel Preston has been experimenting with crustacean blood lines to find those that grow faster and produce the biggest specimens.


The farmed super-prawn will be just as healthy as its ocean-going relative because there is a complete ban using any anti-biotics in Australian prawn fisheries and Preston’s stock is reared organically.
