Johan Dique, the MD of South Africa-based produce supplier Capespan Group, is to step down for health reasons.

Capespan said yesterday (23 June) Dique’s retirement will take effect at the end of this month. He will be succeeded as group MD by Tonie Fuchs.

Dique, who was appointed MD in 2011, said: “I have recently faced some personal medical challenges. I also know that Capespan needs hands-on and active leadership in taking it to the next level of establishing itself as the preferred service provider in the fresh fruit and logistics industries.”

Fuchs, a former COO of  private-equity firm Thembeka Capital Limited, joined Capespan in 2013 as executive assistant to the group’s MD. For the past three years, Fuchs has been instrumental in the repositioning and expansions within all three of Capespan’s operating divisions – fruit, logistics and farms.

Last October, Capespan announced a new venture in Turkey, after snapping up 25% of Hong Kong-based fruit and vegetable distributor Good View Group.

In February, Capespan acquired a 35% stake in Indian importer and distributor the Yupaa Group to increase its presence in emerging markets.
