A Texas school district will be replacing milk cartons supplied to students with plastic bottles in an effort to increase students’ milk consumption.

Almost 40,000 Fort Worth elementary school children will get their daily milk in a transparent plastic container, which features a simple easy-to-open spout. Other schools in the district could receive the new milk bottles later this school year or next year.

Administrators and child nutritional service professionals are hoping that the switch to new plastic bottles will help steer a generation of kids away from sugar-laden carbonated drinks and back to healthier beverage choices.
